Elderly woman duped of ₹1.91 lakh over ₹175 spoilt milk order complaint— How she fell prey to cyber fraud · livemint.com

An elderly lady in Gujarat, India, ordered milk online using a grocery app called Zepto.

When the milk was delivered, five packets were spoiled.

She had paid only ₹175, so she wanted a refund.

She searched the internet for the company's customer care phone number.

She found a number and called it, thinking it was the real Zepto.

The person who answered pretended to be a Zepto customer care worker and promised to help.

He got her to download an app file and make payments through UPI, a way to send money by phone.

In the end, he tricked her out of ₹1.91 lakh, a lot more than the milk was worth.

When she realized she had been scammed, she reported it to the cyber police.

The police registered a case and are now investigating how the fraud happened.
