Gadi Eisenkot’s Yashar Leads Likud in Latest Israel Poll
A new poll asked people in Israel which political parties they might support.
Gadi Eisenkot’s Yashar party came first with a projected 24 seats.
Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud party came very close behind with 23 seats.
Other parties, including B’Yachad and the Democrats, were also projected to win seats.
The opposition could have more seats than Netanyahu’s coalition, but neither side would have the 61 seats needed for a majority.
Arab parties could hold 11 seats together.
This means forming a government could remain difficult.
The poll came after Likud members chose candidates for the next election, while Netanyahu kept the power to select several candidates himself.
KAN News’s August 18 Kantar Institute poll projects Yashar to win 24 Knesset seats, ahead of Likud with 23.
Naftali Bennett’s B’Yachad is projected to take 14 seats, followed by the Democrats with 10.
Otzma Yehudit and Yisrael Beytenu are each projected to win nine seats, while Shas is projected to win seven.
The opposition bloc is projected to hold 57 seats, compared with 52 for Benjamin Netanyahu’s coalition; Arab parties could hold 11.
Likud members voted in primaries with 53% turnout, while Netanyahu retained control over eight of the party’s first 30 list positions.
