Adilabad Municipality Postpones Co-Option Election After Councillors’ Land Protest
Adilabad Municipality was supposed to elect co-option members.
The election was postponed on Monday.
Councillors from Congress, BRS and MIM protested during the meeting.
They asked officials to investigate claims about land belonging to the government.
The councillors accused MLA Payal Shankar of encroaching on government and assigned lands.
They said one disputed area behind RIMS hospital was worth ₹500 crore.
The MLA is also an ex-officio member of the municipality.
The municipal chairman said the election meeting could not continue.
Adilabad municipal chairman Bandari Anusha postponed the co-option members’ election on Monday.
Congress, BRS and MIM councillors protested during the municipal meeting.
The councillors demanded an inquiry into alleged government-land encroachment by MLA Payal Shankar.
They said the alleged encroachments included land worth ₹500 crore behind RIMS hospital.
Anusha said the meeting could not proceed because of the protest and demands.
