Bihar man impersonating Union Minister's PA arrested in Patna
A man in India pretended to be someone he was not.
He called the prison office and said he was the assistant to a government minister.
He asked them to move a prisoner from one jail to another jail.
But the people at the prison office thought something was wrong.
They called the minister's real assistant to check.
The real assistant said he never made that call.
So the police knew the caller was a fake.
The police found him and arrested him.
His name is Dheeraj Kumar and he lives in Arwal district.
The police think he may have made similar pretend calls before, like pretending to be a judge or a big government officer.
Dheeraj Kumar, a resident of Mehandia in Arwal district, was arrested in Patna for allegedly impersonating the PA of Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh.
On August 4 at around 3:50 p.m., the caller directed prison officials to immediately transfer an undertrial from Bhagalpur Jail to Patna's Beur Jail.
Prison officials grew suspicious and contacted the minister's actual PA, who categorically denied making the call or issuing any directive.
Patna Police traced and arrested the accused with the help of technical surveillance; a case was registered at the Sachivalaya police station.
Preliminary investigation suggests Kumar may have made similar fraudulent calls impersonating a judge, senior official, or minister's PA; police are probing whether he acted alone or with an organised network.
