Telangana Crime Rate Rises as Narcotics Cases Surge
Telangana recorded more total crime cases in 2025-26 than in 2023-24.
The biggest concern for police was the sharp increase in narcotics cases.
Organised crime cases also rose greatly, although they started from a small number.
Traffic crime increased as well.
Some types of crime went down, including cybercrime and economic offences.
Serious, or grave, crimes decreased compared with the previous year.
Less serious, or non-grave, crimes continued to increase.
Police chief C. V. Anand told officers to study why crimes happen and improve investigations.
He also said police data updates through CCTNS had reached 96%.
Telangana’s total registered crime cases rose 7.15% from 265,377 in 2023-24 to 284,363 in 2025-26.
Narcotics cases increased 46.10%, from 2,026 to 2,960, while the narcotics crime rate rose from 3.68 to 5.12 per lakh population.
Organised crime cases rose from 25 to 451, while traffic crime increased 9.48% over the period.
Grave crimes fell 10.33% between 2024-25 and 2025-26, but non-grave crimes rose 7.28% over three years.
DGP C. V. Anand ordered deeper crime analysis, stronger policing standards and improved use of CCTNS data.
