Telangana Crime Rate Rises as Narcotics Cases Surge

Telangana recorded more total crime cases in 2025-26 than in 2023-24.

The biggest concern for police was the sharp increase in narcotics cases.

Organised crime cases also rose greatly, although they started from a small number.

Traffic crime increased as well.

Some types of crime went down, including cybercrime and economic offences.

Serious, or grave, crimes decreased compared with the previous year.

Less serious, or non-grave, crimes continued to increase.

Police chief C. V. Anand told officers to study why crimes happen and improve investigations.

He also said police data updates through CCTNS had reached 96%.

Increased from 265,377 in 2023-24 to 284,363 in 2025-26.
Overall crime rate
Rose from 481.58 to 491.59 cases per lakh population, a 7.15% increase.
Narcotics cases
Increased from 2,026 to 2,960, a 46.10% rise.
Organised crime cases
Increased from 25 to 451, a reported 1,704% rise.
Grave crimes
Declined from 7,019 in 2024-25 to 6,294 in 2025-26, a 10.33% decrease.
Non-grave crimes
Rose from 259,201 in 2023-24 to 278,069 in 2025-26, a 7.28% increase.
CCTNS data updates
The update rate rose from roughly 70–80% to 96%, according to the DGP’s office.
