Telangana DGP Calls for Policing Reforms to Tackle Emerging Crimes
The police chief of Telangana, a state in India, held a big meeting with police officers in the city of Warangal.
He said crimes are changing, so police must change how they work too.
Criminals now use computers and the internet, which is called cybercrime.
In one year, people in Telangana lost about 1,700 crore rupees to these online crimes.
The police chief said Telangana is the best state in India at stopping cybercrime.
He warned that bad people are hiding drugs inside chocolates to trick children.
Police stations were told to help people quickly when they complain about problems.
The Warangal police force has fewer officers than it needs, with many jobs still empty.
The chief wants technology to help police do their jobs, but not replace them.
He praised people for joining together to put up cameras to keep their neighborhoods safe.
Telangana DGP C.V. Anand called for policing changes to address cybercrime, narcotics, financial offences, and road accidents at a Warangal Commissionerate review meeting.
People in Telangana lost around Rs 1,700 crore to cybercrimes over the last year, with recovery chances declining when victims delay reporting.
Telangana secured the first position in the country in controlling cybercrime in the Prime Minister's Pragati review.
The Warangal Commissionerate has 2,976 personnel against a sanctioned strength of 3,758, leaving 782 posts vacant across its 50 police stations.
Anand warned of drugs disguised as chocolates aimed at luring children into addiction and directed educational institutions to help prevent drug abuse.
The Commissionerate is intensifying surveillance of inter-state gangs arriving by train from Bihar, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha for chain-snatching and motorcycle thefts.
