NITES seeks Labour Ministry intervention over Wipro's delayed fresher onboarding
This story is about some young people in India who were promised jobs at a big technology company called Wipro.
They finished their studies and passed many tests to get those jobs.
The company even sent them letters saying they were hired.
But then the young people had to wait and wait to find out when they would start working.
Months went by and nobody gave them a clear answer.
A group called NITES helps technology workers when they have problems.
NITES went to the government to ask for help.
They asked the government to make Wipro give the young people a clear date to start work.
Wipro said it still wants to hire them but needs to follow its own business needs.
The workers just want to know when they can begin their jobs.
NITES filed a complaint with the Ministry of Labour and Employment over a 'prolonged and unexplained' delay in onboarding more than 200 students and young engineers selected by Wipro under its Elite Hiring 2025 process.
The candidates completed successive recruitment stages, receiving offer letters in July 2025, Letters of Intent in August 2025, and clearing the Codility technical assessment in March 2026.
They completed the background verification process on 26 March 2026 but have still not received a definite onboarding or joining date.
NITES urged Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya's ministry to seek a clear status, the reasons for the delay, confirmation of offer validity, and a definite time-bound onboarding schedule from Wipro.
Wipro said it 'remains committed to onboarding the freshers, in line with our business requirements' and will keep candidates informed on further updates.
