Mizo Students Protest Outside MPSC Office, Demand Recruitment Reforms
A big group of students in Mizoram, called MZP, went to protest outside the office where the state gives out government jobs.
They blocked the doors so the workers could not go inside.
The students want the way people apply for jobs to be changed.
Right now, job seekers must upload their personal details and documents once into a computer system called OTR.
The students say this system is confusing and has caused some people to lose their chance at jobs.
Some people even passed the written test and were called for interviews, but then got rejected because their uploaded documents did not look complete.
The students want those people to be allowed to submit their documents again on paper.
The office, called MPSC, says the system is fair and that many other states use it too.
It also says only about 500 people may have been affected.
The student leader says the protest will get bigger until the office agrees to their demands.
Hundreds of Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) members picketed the Mizoram Public Service Commission (MPSC) office in Aizawl on Monday, preventing officers and staff from entering.
The protest was largely peaceful apart from a brief scuffle between police and some protesters when officials attempted to enter the premises.
MZP demanded that the One Time Registration (OTR) system be scrapped and replaced with need-based, post-specific application forms, and that rejected candidates get a one-time chance to submit documents offline.
MPSC defended OTR, saying it simplifies applications and ensures fairness, and estimated that only around 500 candidates may have been affected by incomplete or late document uploads.
MZP president Dr C Lalremruata said the agitation would be intensified until demands were met, while some affected candidates have approached the Aizawl bench of the Gauhati High Court.
