TGGENCO Seeks Additional Coal as Telangana Power Demand Surges
Telangana needs more electricity because people are using more power for farming, factories and cooling.
The state mainly uses coal to run some of its power stations.
Its usual coal supplier has delivered less coal than expected.
The coal supplied has also often been lower quality than the stations were designed to use.
Because of this, some large power units cannot run at full strength.
Telangana Power Generation Corporation has asked for 5 million tonnes of extra coal from another company.
Four of five large units at Yadadri are already operating, and the fifth is planned for September.
The corporation says enough coal is needed so all the plants can work fully during periods of very high demand.

TGGENCO’s 28.87 MTPA coal linkage with Singareni Collieries achieved 76% quantity materialisation in FY 2025–26.
Quality materialisation against the contracted fuel-supply grade was about 40%, according to the corporation.
Insufficient G9/G10 coal has forced key units at KTPS and Yadadri Thermal Power Station to operate at partial loads.
Telangana’s peak power demand reportedly exceeded 17,000–18,000 MW in 2026, compared with about 13,000 MW previously.
