Telangana Moves to Diversify Singareni and Secure Its Future
Singareni is a large mining company owned by the Telangana government.
It has mainly mined coal for more than 100 years.
Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu said the company should also look for other valuable minerals.
These include gold, lithium, copper, graphite and cobalt.
The government says this could help Singareni earn money in the future.
It has also helped the company obtain new coal blocks in Odisha and elsewhere.
Coal production has started at the Naini block, and its first shipment has arrived.
Government leaders and worker unions want employees and managers to work together to strengthen Singareni.
Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu said Telangana is working to protect Singareni and make it a profitable, world-class mining organisation.
The government wants Singareni to pursue gold, lithium, copper, graphite and cobalt as solar and wind power reduce future reliance on coal.
Singareni secured the Naini Coal Block in Odisha, the Tadicherla-2 mining lease and the Manuguru Deep Side-2 block through government efforts and auctions.
Production began at Naini last year, and its first coal rake reached Singareni this month, according to Bhatti.
Singareni has about 43,000-45,000 permanent employees and nearly 30,000 contract and outsourced workers.
