Government Clears Rs 7,360-Crore Godavari Water Project for Hyderabad
The government has approved a large water project for Hyderabad.
It will bring water from Mallannasagar to Ghanpur.
The plan is intended to help fill the Osmansagar and Himayatsagar reservoirs.
It is also part of efforts to rejuvenate the Musi river.
A company called MEIL will build the main water-supply facilities.
The company may begin using its own money while waiting for a bank loan.
Another project will build 22 plants to clean sewage.
These sewage plants will be operated and maintained for 15 years.
The government ordered work on the Rs 7,360-crore Godavari Drinking Water Supply Scheme, Phases II and III.
The project aims to fill Osmansagar and Himayatsagar reservoirs and support rejuvenation of the Musi river.
MEIL will implement Package-I, including pumping mains, a 1,170-MLD treatment plant and a clear-water reservoir at Ghanpur.
Package-I will use MEIL internal funds until bank financing is sanctioned, with a 180-day financial-closure requirement.
A separate Rs 1,906.44-crore Package-II will build 22 sewage-treatment plants totaling 471.5 MLD.
