HAL’s LUH Cuts Himalayan Helicopter Vibrations by Up to Half
Hindustan Aeronautics Limited has made its Light Utility Helicopter shake less.
The helicopter now has 30–40% less overall vibration, while one kind of up-and-down shaking has dropped by nearly half.
Helicopters shake because their rotors, engines and gearboxes are constantly moving and producing force.
Too much shaking can make flying tiring and can wear down equipment and aircraft parts.
Engineers changed the helicopter’s structure to solve more of the problem at its source.
The LUH is meant to carry soldiers, supplies and injured people.
It must work in the high Himalayas, where thin air, narrow landing places and sudden weather make flying difficult.
The helicopter is also intended to replace older Chetak and Cheetah helicopters used by India’s armed forces.
