MHADA Extends GTB Nagar Evacuation Deadline, Announces Rent Support
MHADA is redeveloping an area called GTB Nagar in Mumbai.
Some shopkeepers, people using commercial spaces, and hutment dwellers asked for more time to leave.
MHADA has given them until October 20, 2026, to move out voluntarily.
The authority says it may take eviction action against unauthorised structures that remain after that date.
MHADA has listed 121 occupants as eligible for rehabilitation.
Another 196 people must provide documents within six months to prove they qualify.
The 121 eligible occupants will receive ₹10,000 a month for rent starting November 1, 2026.
The conditionally eligible occupants will also receive ₹10,000 a month for six months while they complete their paperwork.
MHADA extended the voluntary evacuation deadline for affected GTB Nagar occupants to October 20, 2026.
The extension followed occupants’ requests for more time and concerns about financial losses from immediate eviction or demolition.
MHADA says unauthorised structures that are not vacated by the deadline may face eviction action under the rules.
Under the revised Draft Annexure-II, 121 non-residential occupants and hutment dwellers are eligible for rehabilitation; 196 others are conditionally eligible.
The 121 eligible occupants will receive ₹10,000 monthly rent from November 1, 2026, while the 196 conditionally eligible occupants will receive it for six months as they submit documents.
