Kamathipura Redevelopment Advances, Work Set To Begin On Diwali
Kamathipura in Mumbai is going to be rebuilt as one large project.
MHADA has signed an agreement with two developers to begin the work.
Construction is expected to start around Diwali.
The project covers many old buildings, narrow roads and crowded areas.
About 8,001 residential and commercial occupants are included.
Eligible residential tenants will receive new 500-square-foot homes.
Shops and other commercial occupants will also receive rehabilitation support.
Residents will get advance rent and money to help them move.
The project is intended to provide safer homes and better infrastructure while preserving Kamathipura’s historic character.
MHADA signed a Construction and Development Agency agreement with Bhagirathi Housing Pvt. Ltd. and Mathi Developers.
Physical redevelopment work across Kamathipura’s Lanes 1 to 15 is scheduled to begin on Diwali.
The 34-acre project covers about 475 cessed and 259 non-cessed buildings and roughly 8,001 occupants.
Eligible residential tenants will receive 500-square-foot rehabilitation flats, while commercial occupants will also be rehabilitated.
Residents will receive advance rent and a Rs 25,000 shifting allowance, with additional rent provisions for businesses and landowners.
