Haryana Police Brace as Farmers March to Delhi, Khanauri Barricaded

Farmers in India are walking to Delhi, the capital city, to tell their leaders they do not like a trade deal being planned with the United States.

They started their walk from a village called Datasinghwala in Punjab.

A group called the Samyukt Kisan Morcha is leading the walk, and a farmer leader named Jagjit Singh Dallewal is in charge.

About 51 farmers started the walk together.

The police in Haryana have put up blocks at a place called Khanauri to stop the farmers from entering their state.

Two years ago, a young farmer named Shubhkaran Singh died near that same place during a protest, and people still remember him.

The farmers are carrying little bags of soil from the place where he died.

Recently, police have also used force against other protest groups in Ambala and Hansi, which has made people worried.

The police say they have only changed some traffic routes and have not closed all the roads.

Many people are watching closely to see if the march stays peaceful.
