India May Reach One-Fifth of Global Smartphone Production Soon

India is making more smartphones than it did in the past.

A report says India produced about 18% of the world’s smartphones in 2025.

It could reach about 20%, or one-fifth, within the next one or two years.

China is still the biggest smartphone producer, making about 63% of the world’s phones.

Vietnam is another important manufacturing country.

Many companies are spreading their factories across several countries instead of depending mostly on China.

This change grew after pandemic-related factory closures and port problems.

Tariffs, political tensions and limits on important technologies also encouraged companies to change where they make phones.

As a result, India is becoming a more important electronics manufacturing hub.
