Top financial officials from many countries met in Asheville, in the United States.

They discussed how to improve economic growth and keep financial systems stable.

India was represented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Reserve Bank Governor Sanjay Malhotra.

Malhotra held meetings with United States Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh and IMF official Dan Katz.

India also promoted trade, investment and opportunities for emerging economies.

A major disagreement involved China’s large trade surplus and its exports to other countries.

The United States and most other G20 members supported language criticizing non-market policies and large trade surpluses.

China disagreed and said both countries with trade deficits and surpluses must make changes.

Because China did not agree, the meeting produced a chair’s statement instead of a joint communique.
