Bombay High Court: Goswami case shouldn't be a proxy war
Arnab Goswami is the editor-in-chief — the head — of a TV news channel called Republic TV.
Police were looking into the sad death of an interior designer, a person who designs homes, who died by suicide.
The case claimed that Arnab was involved in encouraging this, which the law calls abetment to suicide.
Arnab went to the Bombay High Court to ask the judges to stop the case against him.
The judge hearing the plea said the case should not become a "proxy kind of a war," or a fight carried out through the court.
The judge also said a lot of time has passed since 2020 and everyone should look at the case with a fresh mind.
The government's lawyer told the court the case was first closed in 2018 but was opened again in 2020.
Arnab's lawyer said the government reopened the case because of anger and dislike toward Arnab, not because of fairness.
