Vietnam Airlines Boeing 787 Overruns Munich Runway, Lands Safely
An airplane from Vietnam Airlines was trying to take off from an airport in Munich, Germany, on Saturday.
During takeoff, the plane went past the end of the runway and rolled onto the grass.
It still managed to get into the air, but the crew saw a warning about one of the tires.
The plane flew around in circles for more than two hours to use up extra fuel before coming back.
It landed safely on the runway, but people saw smoke coming from the wheels.
Everyone on the plane - the passengers and the crew - was safe.
The passengers slid out of the plane on emergency slides, and firefighters came to help.
The airport closed one of its runways because of what happened.
The airline called the problem a 'technical issue' and said the pilots followed all the right steps.
A Vietnam Airlines Boeing 787-9 operating flight VN-34 from Munich to Hanoi overran the runway during takeoff, travelling about 120 metres past the runway end onto grass.
The aircraft reportedly suffered a tailstrike and tyre damage, and the crew received a tyre-pressure warning after climbing to around 10,000 feet.
The aircraft circled for more than two hours to burn fuel before returning to Munich Airport and landing safely on Runway 26R after two low approaches.
Smoke was reportedly seen coming from the left main landing gear, and passengers were evacuated using emergency slides with the fire brigade present.
Vietnam Airlines attributed the incident to a 'technical issue', confirmed passengers and cabin crew were safe, and Munich Airport closed its north runway.
