Trainer Aircraft Veers Off Baramati Runway During Rejected Take-Off Drill
A small training plane had an accident at an airfield in Baramati, India.
The plane was practising a special take-off drill where pilots have to stop the plane quickly on the runway.
This drill is called a 'rejected take-off.'
During the second drill, the plane could not stop in time.
It went past the end of the paved runway and onto the grass.
A teacher pilot and a student were inside the plane.
Both were safe, and nobody was hurt.
The plane got some damage to its propeller and other front parts.
India's aviation safety team is investigating what happened.
Other planes have also had accidents near this airstrip earlier this year.
A Cessna C172 trainer operated by the Academy of Carver Aviation overran the runway at Baramati Airfield, Maharashtra, during a training exercise on Sunday.
The aircraft, registration VT-SEX, was unable to stop within the paved runway during a second rejected take-off drill and came to rest in the grassy area beyond Runway 29.
Flight Instructor Capt. Chirag Shashikant Doifode and trainee Abhijeet Jundre were on board; both evacuated without injury.
The aircraft sustained prima facie damage to its propeller, engine cowling and nose landing gear, with a detailed assessment pending.
The DGCA Air Safety team is investigating; the incident follows a May 13 trainer crash landing near the airstrip and a fatal January crash that killed then Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and four others.
