The Keralam government is spending Rs 551.5011 crore to prepare for the Sabarimala pilgrimage.

The money will be used by the Public Works Department for different construction and improvement projects.

Chief Minister VD Satheesan approved the plan after a review meeting.

This year’s amount is larger than the amounts given in the previous two financial years.

The pilgrimage season is expected to bring many devotees to Sabarimala.

The Travancore Devaswom Board also held special rituals at about 25 temples.

The rituals were intended to address what the board called a dosham, or an adverse effect.

The board linked it to alleged abusive words used toward devotees by some employees and security personnel.
