Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign Creates Employment for Jeevika Didis in Samastipur
The Har Ghar Tiranga campaign is a big celebration to remember 'Vande Mataram,' a very famous Indian song that is 150 years old.
As part of this campaign, people all over India put up the national flag, called the Tricolour, at their homes.
In a district called Samastipur in Bihar, a project named Jeevika helps rural women earn money by making things.
These women are called Jeevika Didis.
For the campaign, they received orders to make more than 80,000 flags.
More than 1,600 women are sewing flags at stitching centres and in their own homes.
Each flag costs just 25 rupees so that many families can afford one.
So far, more than 10,000 flags have been sent to the district office and different blocks.
The women are happy because this work gives them a way to earn money for their families.
Just like they made masks during the COVID-19 pandemic, they are now proudly making flags for their country.
The Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, held to mark the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram, has generated employment for Jeevika Didis in Samastipur, Bihar.
Jeevika self-help groups have received orders for more than 80,000 Tricolour flags from government departments, industrial units, community organisations and the general public.
Over 1,600 Jeevika Didis are working day and night at stitching centres and from home, with each flag priced at Rs 25 for affordability.
More than 10,000 flags have been dispatched to the district office and various blocks, with several thousand more ready for delivery.
Neetu Kumari said a centre with around 50 women received block-level orders worth Rs 20,000 to Rs 25,000, of which work worth about Rs 10,000 is already completed.
