Raichur Tea Seller Arrested For Seeking Pistol To Trigger Unrest
A 24-year-old man who sells tea in a town called Raichur was arrested by the police.
The police say he messaged a stranger in another country on a phone app and asked for a gun.
He wanted the gun, they say, to cause trouble in India.
The police were watching social media and noticed he was liking posts that were unkind to other groups of people.
He then wrote to a person named 'Rana Bhai' on Instagram.
'Rana Bhai' gave him a number to talk on WhatsApp and said he would give him money and help him get a gun.
The man also shared pictures of himself and his tea stand.
After checking his phone, police found angry messages and voice notes.
He was taken to court and sent to jail.
The police are still trying to find out who 'Rana Bhai' really is.
Raichur police arrested Mohammed Sahil, 24, a tea seller at Gandhi Chowk, for allegedly asking a foreign contact to provide a pistol to create unrest in India.
Police flagged Sahil after he liked provocative and hateful content on the Instagram account awais_rajpoot10 from July 8, with his activity continuing for about 15 days.
On July 14, Sahil contacted Instagram user 'Rana Bhai' to ask about getting a pistol; the user then shared a WhatsApp number and asked for Sahil's contact details.
Phone examination revealed WhatsApp conversations, voice calls, and hateful audio messages targeting a community, with 'Rana Bhai' offering money and to arrange a pistol.
Sahil told police 'Rana Bhai' lived in a Middle East country; he was produced before a magistrate and remanded to judicial custody while police investigate the contact's identity.
