Telangana Police Launch AI-Powered Dial 112 Emergency Response System

Telangana Police Launch AI-Powered Dial 112 Emergency Response System
Goodbye Dial 100, welcome 112 for emergency services · thehansindia.com

Police in the Indian state of Telangana have started a new emergency phone number called 112.

If you are in trouble, you can call 112 and get help from police, firefighters, ambulances and other emergency services all in one place.

The new system is called TG-ERSS and it uses artificial intelligence, which is like a very smart computer helper.

The helper can find where the caller is, sort calls so the most serious emergencies get helped first, and turn spoken words into text.

It also picks the nearest patrol vehicle to send to the emergency.

The system answers calls faster than the old one, saving almost 30 per cent of the time.

Police say emergency teams in Telangana arrive in about 10 and a half minutes, which is faster than the national average of about 18 minutes.

Around 164 trained people work around the clock at the call centre, which handles about 18,000 emergency calls every day.

Police are even planning to test drones that can fly to emergencies as helpers from the sky.

This all helps people get the help they need more quickly.
