Mumbai: BMC Seeks Alternate Financing To Fund Mega Projects Amid ₹2 Lakh Crore In Committed Liabilities · freepressjournal.in

Mumbai’s civic body needs more money to pay for several large infrastructure projects.

These include roads, tunnels and sewage treatment upgrades.

The BMC says it has more than ₹2 lakh crore in committed liabilities.

It has fixed deposits, but much of that money is reserved for pensions, contractor deposits and other obligations.

Only about ₹39,500 crore is readily available for infrastructure.

The projects together are expected to cost nearly four times that amount.

The BMC wants to hire an agency to design a funding plan and debt policy.

The agency may help raise money through bonds, government support, loans and carbon credits.
