India's EV car exports surge 17-fold as Europe drives demand
India makes electric cars, which are cars that run on batteries instead of petrol.
In the first three months of this financial year, India sent many more of them to other countries.
The value of these exports jumped 17 times compared with the same time last year.
That means India sold $369 million worth of electric cars, instead of a small amount before.
Europe was the biggest customer for these cars.
Spain bought the most, followed by the United Kingdom.
The United Kingdom bought nearly 2,646 cars, a huge jump from just one car last year.
Germany, Norway and Denmark also bought Indian electric cars.
Because of this, all of India's car exports together grew by 15 percent.
Officials say this shows the world likes Indian-made electric cars.
India's electric car exports surged 17-fold year-on-year to $369 million in the April–June quarter, per Department of Commerce data.
Indian automakers exported 10,802 electric cars in the quarter, up from 1,309 units in the same period last year.
Spain was the top destination, importing $146.4 million worth of EVs (4,007 units), nearly 40% of India's total EV exports.
The United Kingdom became the second-largest buyer, importing $78.7 million (2,646 units), up from just one vehicle a year earlier.
Overall motor vehicle exports rose 15% to $2.87 billion, boosted by the clean-mobility surge.
