Mumbai's First 20 AC Local Rakes Expected By December 2027
Mumbai plans to get 238 new air-conditioned local trains.
The first 20 trains may arrive by December 2027.
The other 218 trains are expected to have more comfortable seats and better charging points.
They may also have improved cooling systems and screens for passenger information.
The trains could use more power so they can speed up faster.
Their proposed top speed is 130 kmph, higher than the current 100–110 kmph capability.
Three railway factories will share the work of building them.
The complete order is expected to be finished by 2030.
Central Railway and Western Railway will receive trains according to passenger demand and response.
The first 20 of 238 planned AC local rakes for Mumbai are expected by December 2027.
The remaining 218 rakes are planned to include cushioned seats, improved charging facilities and upgraded passenger amenities.
Integral Coach Factory will manufacture 120 rakes, Rail Coach Factory 71, and Modern Coach Factory 47.
Proposed upgrades include higher power capacity, stronger HVAC systems, passenger information screens and speeds of up to 130 kmph.
The full order is targeted for completion by 2030, with allocation between Central and Western Railway based on demand and passenger response.
