Services make up 48% of India's exports at 80

India just turned 80 years old as an independent country.

India sells things to other countries, and those are called exports.

For a long time, India mostly shipped physical goods like machines and medicine.

Now, nearly half of India's exports are services, like computer software and business help.

Services went from 35% of India's exports in 2009-10 to 48% in the latest financial year.

In just four years, services exports grew from $254.5 billion to $421.3 billion.

Much of this growth came from telecom, computer and information services.

These services can travel over the internet, so they don't need ships or trucks.

India also signed deals with other countries, like the UAE and Australia, to make trading easier.

Altogether, India's exports reached a record $863.1 billion in the latest year.
