Vijay to Launch Tamil Nadu Gold Ring Scheme for Newborns
Tamil Nadu is starting a program to give gold rings to some babies born in government hospitals.
The program is called the Thaai Maaman Thanga Mothiram Thittam, or Maternal Uncle Gold Ring Scheme.
Chief Minister Vijay is scheduled to launch it at a hospital in Madurai on September 28.
Babies born on or after June 22, 2026, can qualify.
Their mothers must live permanently in Tamil Nadu and complete the required health registration.
The government has bought 1.28 lakh rings for the first phase.
Babies born before the launch can receive rings through special hubs, while later babies can receive them when they leave the hospital.
