India Housing Sales Hold Steady as Premium Homes Gain
India’s housing market sold about the same number of homes as it did a year earlier.
The eight big markets together recorded 2,58,238 sales from January to September 2026.
Mumbai sold the most homes.
Sales fell in the National Capital Region, especially for homes priced between ₹5 crore and ₹10 crore.
More buyers bought homes costing over ₹1 crore than in the previous year.
Sales of homes priced ₹2–5 crore grew, while sales of cheaper homes declined.
Builders also put more new homes on the market.
Knight Frank India said the changes show a normalising market, with different cities performing differently.
Sales across eight major Indian housing markets totalled 2,58,238 units in January–September 2026, broadly unchanged year over year.
Mumbai remained the largest market with 72,804 sales, while sales in the National Capital Region fell 11% to 35,574.
Homes priced above ₹1 crore made up 55% of sales, up from 50% a year earlier.
Sales of homes priced ₹2–5 crore rose 19.4% to 51,501, while sales below ₹50 lakh fell 14% to 47,660.
Developers launched 2,79,899 homes, up 4%; inventory clearance time edged up to 6.1 quarters.
