State Seeks GI for Khara Dupatta Tradition · deccanchronicle.com

The Telangana government wants special recognition for three local products.

One of them is Khara Dupatta, a traditional bridal outfit from Hyderabad.

The other two are Medak Gogadi and Tandur limestone.

This recognition is called a Geographical Indication, or GI, tag.

A GI tag shows that a product is closely linked to a particular place.

Supporters say it can help local makers and farmers gain visibility and better incomes.

Telangana already has 18 products with GI registration.

More local products, including Balanagar custard apple, are still waiting for approval.
