Farmers, unions call for national movement against Centre's policies
Farmers and workers in a city called Ongole got together to protest against the Central government.
They said the government is making rules that help big companies instead of farmers.
Many farmers are not earning enough money for their crops, and some are very sad and hopeless.
The protesters asked the government to follow the advice of a committee led by a wise scientist named MS Swaminathan.
That advice says farmers should get at least half of the extra profit from their crops.
The leaders told the crowd that tobacco farmers are losing a lot of money on every barn of tobacco they grow.
After the speeches, the protesters stood in front of a big building called Prakasam Bhavan.
The police came and took many of them to the police station.
Later, the protesters were allowed to go home after paying bail.
Farmers, workers, and trade union leaders held a Jail Bharo programme in Ongole on Monday under the banner of Samyukt Kisan Morcha and Central trade unions.
They called for a nationwide people's movement on the lines of the Quit India movement against the Central government's corporate-friendly policies.
After a public meeting presided over by CITU district general secretary M Ramesh, AITUC district president Prabhakar, and MS Sai, protesters staged a protest in front of Prakasam Bhavan.
Police arrested the protesters and took them to One Town Police Station; they were later released on bail.
All India Kisan Sangh national president Ravella Venkaiah alleged the Centre was pushing agriculture into corporate hands via free trade agreements and demanded MS Swaminathan Committee recommendations of C2 plus 50 percent price support.
