Naidu Orders Stringent Action in Rajahmundry Medicos Hit-and-Run Case
Something very sad happened in a town in India called Rajahmundry.
Two grown-ups went to a shopping mall to watch a movie.
They may have been drinking alcohol, which can make people unsafe.
The mall staff tested their breath and said they could not come in because they had been drinking.
The two men were not happy and drove their car very fast out of the parking area.
Their car hit a smaller vehicle carrying two medical students, Priyanka and Umesh.
Priyanka hurt her head very badly and became very sick; one report says doctors declared her brain dead and moved her to another city.
Umesh also got hurt, though reports disagree on how badly.
The men drove away, but the police caught them.
The leader of the region, Mr. Naidu, said the people who did this must be punished and that doctors should take the best care of Priyanka.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu directed stringent action against the accused in the Rajahmundry hit-and-run case involving two medical students.
The two accused, allegedly inebriated, were denied movie entry at Prasad Aditya Mall after a breathalyzer test and then allegedly struck a vehicle carrying medicos Priyanka and Umesh while driving out at high speed.
Priyanka, a postgraduate student at GSL Medical College, suffered a severe head injury; one report says she was declared brain dead and shifted to Hyderabad, while another says she remains critical and was shifted to a private hospital in Secunderabad.
Umesh was also injured in the incident, described as having minor injuries in two reports and serious injuries in another.
The accused reportedly fled the scene after the crash but were arrested; one report identifies them as Dushyanth and Andrew William Joseph, residents of Namavaram.
