Mumbai On High Alert After Bomb Threat Email To Mayor
Someone sent the Mayor of Mumbai a very scary email saying bombs would go off in the city.
The email said the Mayor's office, the Mumbai Metro, the stock exchange and some schools could be attacked.
It even told people not to come to Independence Day celebrations or send their children to school.
The police and special security teams took the warning very seriously.
They searched the Mayor's office, metro stations, the stock exchange and schools with special equipment and sniffer dogs.
The teams did not find any bombs or anything dangerous.
The Mayor kept working normally all day and said no one should worry.
The police think the email was probably a hoax, a trick to scare people.
They are now looking into where the email came from.
This is not the first time the Mayor has received similar scary emails before, and those were also hoaxes.
A bomb threat email allegedly sent by "Dennis Lang" reached Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde's official email ID on Friday morning, days before Independence Day.
The email's subject line, "Bomb Blast Mumbai Mayor Office @ 3:11 PM," threatened the Mayor's office, Mumbai Metro, the Bombay Stock Exchange and several prominent schools.
It warned people against attending Independence Day celebrations, sending children to school, or travelling by Metro, and named Metro stations from Ghatkopar and Marol Naka to CSMT.
Mumbai Police, the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad, the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad and the Cyber Cell searched the targeted locations with sniffer dogs and detection equipment, finding no explosives.
Security has been significantly tightened across Mumbai, while the Cyber Cell traces the email's IP address; two similar threat emails to the Mayor in recent months were found to be hoaxes.
