Delhi University students end hunger strike after varsity assures action

Five NSUI-affiliated Delhi University students ended their nine-day hunger strike on Thursday after receiving written assurances from the university administration.
The strike was part of the ongoing 'DU Satyagraha' protest and was called off after a letter dated August 4, signed by the university's Proctor, was handed to students by South Campus Director Rajni Abbi.
The university assured that student representation in the Academic Council will be completed within three months of the conclusion of the 2026 Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) elections.
Postgraduate seat allocation was increased from 1,100 to more than double, and one-year PG courses in five programmes began at the School of Open Learning for the 2026-27 session.
The administration also gave an on-camera verbal assurance to respond promptly about an 'X' (formerly Twitter) post made from the official university account during the Jantar Mantar protest.
