Telangana SIR Flags 62% of Notified Voters Over Discrepancies

Telangana is checking its voter list through a process called a special intensive revision, or SIR.

Many voters have received notices because some information in their records does not match other records.

More than 58 lakh people were affected by two major types of possible problems.

The biggest problem was that some voters could not be matched with the previous voter list.

Another large group had a mismatch in their parents’ names.

Some records also showed unusual age differences or family details.

Notices were especially common in several constituencies around Hyderabad.

The Sabar Institute studied data downloaded from the Telangana election website.

It also reported that Muslims were named in notices somewhat more often than their share of the electorate.
