Cooch Behar police seize Rs 56 lakh banned cough syrup
Police in a district called Cooch Behar found a big truck full of a type of cough syrup that is banned.
Banned means the medicine is not allowed to be sold.
The syrup was worth about 56 lakh rupees, which is a lot of money.
There were more than 25,000 bottles inside the truck.
The truck was parked near a market called Prantik Bazar since Tuesday night.
Some neighbors thought the truck looked strange, so they told the police.
The police came on Wednesday and checked the truck.
They found the syrup and took the truck and all the bottles.
The police think someone planned to carry the syrup into another country called Bangladesh.
Police are still trying to find who was behind the plan.
Dinhata police in Cooch Behar seized a truck carrying 25,650 bottles of banned cough syrup valued at around ₹56.43 lakh.
The truck, bearing an Uttar Pradesh registration number, was intercepted at Kharkharia near Prantik Bazar on Wednesday following a tip-off.
Residents grew suspicious of the truck parked near Prantik Bazar since Tuesday night and alerted the police.
The entire consignment and the truck have been seized by the police.
Police suspect the syrup was meant to be smuggled into Bangladesh and have launched a probe; no arrests have been confirmed yet.
