80th Independence year marks women's economic freedom: Punjab CM

This story is about India celebrating a very important birthday — 80 years of being a free country.

A leader named Bhagwant Mann, who is the Chief Minister of Punjab state, gave a big speech.

He said this year will be special for women in Punjab.

For the first time, mothers and daughters can spend their own money the way they want.

The government gives money every month to many women.

More than 6.5 million women already get this money.

Mr. Mann also remembered heroes who fought for India's freedom long ago.

He talked about brave soldiers who gave their lives for the country.

He announced a new memorial for these heroes in a place called Hussainiwala.

Most of all, he asked everyone to live together in peace and brotherhood.
