Five Animals Adopted at Vizag Zoo's Animal Adoption Programme

Together, the visitors gave ₹82,000 to help look after five zoo animals.
The zoo says the programme lets individuals, families, schools, organisations and companies support wildlife conservation.
Adopters get some special privileges too.
People who donate can also receive a tax benefit for their kindness.

V. Nishkala Nakshatra adopted a spotted deer, a star tortoise and a meerkat for one year to mark a birthday celebration, contributing ₹50,000.
A family from Uttar Pradesh adopted a red-necked wallaby for one year and a leopard for one month, contributing ₹32,000.
Adoption costs were ₹20,000 for the spotted deer, ₹10,000 for the star tortoise, ₹20,000 for the meerkat, ₹20,000 for the wallaby and ₹12,000 for the one-month leopard sponsorship.
Donations under the programme are eligible for tax exemption under Section 80G(5) of the Income Tax Act, 1961, under the old tax regime.
