Udupi’s Two-Day Janmashtami Celebrations Feature Food, Processions, Security

Udupi is preparing to celebrate Sri Krishna’s birthday.

The main celebrations will happen on September 4 and 5.

Special prayers and a midnight worship ceremony will take place on September 4.

On September 5, a clay statue of Krishna will be carried through the streets on a golden chariot.

People will also see traditional pot-breaking, tiger dances, folk performances and wrestling.

Many sweets and chaklis will be made for visitors.

About 80 cooks are preparing the food, and some prasada will go to local schools.

Police, volunteers, ambulances and drones will help keep people safe.

Another large Tulasi worship programme will be held on September 6.

Prasada preparation: Around 1.5 lakh chaklis and nearly 30,000 pieces each of five varieties of unde, or laddu, are being prepared.
Ingredients: About 20 quintals of jaggery and seven quintals of sugar will be used for sweets and savouries.
Cooks and volunteers: Nearly 80 cooks are preparing the food, with volunteers assisting in prasada packing.
Security deployment: More than 300 police and Home Guard personnel, along with KSRP and DAR contingents, will be deployed.
Emergency resources: Three fire and emergency response teams, two ambulances and three drone teams will be stationed.
Crowd management: Seven parking areas, 45 additional CCTV locations and 12 public-address systems have been arranged.
