Vice-President calls Partition most dehumanising chapter at Delhi University
The Vice-President of India gave an important speech at Delhi University.
He talked about something called the Partition, which happened in 1947.
Back then, one big country was split into two countries, India and Pakistan.
This made more than one crore people leave their homes, and many lives were lost.
The Vice-President said this was one of the saddest chapters in India's history.
He said the day is remembered not to be angry, but to remember the suffering of the people.
He honoured 15 people who lived through Partition and survived.
He said children should learn the true story of Partition in school.
He also said everyone should put the nation above religion, caste, and region, so such horror never happens again.
Vice-President C P Radhakrishnan called the India-Pakistan Partition one of the most tragic and dehumanising chapters in India's history.
He spoke at a national seminar marking Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, organised by Delhi University's Centre for Independence and Partition Studies and the Indian Council of Historical Research.
Radhakrishnan said Partition uprooted more than one crore people in one of the largest mass migrations in human history.
Fifteen Partition survivors were felicitated at the event, and the Vice-President paid tribute to their suffering and endurance.
He said the hurried redrawing of borders created disputes whose consequences still affect India's defence policy, national security and relations with neighbouring countries.
