Brittas–Dev 'Lungiwala' Row Sparks Dhoti Solidarity in Rajya Sabha

In India, there is a special meeting place called Parliament where leaders talk about the country.

One day, Mr. John Brittas, a leader who wears a traditional cloth called a dhoti, said that another leader called him a mean nickname because of his clothes.

The dhoti is an important part of South Indian culture, and Mr. Brittas felt that his culture was insulted.

The other leader, Ms. Sushmita Dev, said she never used that word and that Mr. Brittas was not telling the truth.

Many other leaders decided to wear dhotis too, to show that they stand with Mr. Brittas and respect everyone's culture.

They also held up signs saying 'Our pride, not your prejudice' to ask people to be kind and stop making fun of clothes.

The person in charge of the meeting, Chairman CP Radhakrishnan, told everyone to be careful with their words so no one's feelings get hurt.

Even the leaders of the government said people should not make fun of anyone's clothes and called the garment a dhoti, not a lungi.

In the end, both leaders were asked to talk about it calmly so the misunderstanding could be sorted out.
