Parliament Attire Row: Wahab's Dhoti and Warm Handshake

There was a big fuss in India's Parliament about what some people wear.

Some people thought a rude thing, called a slur, was said about clothes.

A lawmaker named P V Abdul Wahab came to the building wearing a kurta-pyjama.

Other lawmakers from his home state of Kerala usually wear a long cloth called a mundu.

Mallikarjun Kharge and other lawmakers asked him why he was not wearing one.

Some lawmakers gave him a dhoti, which is another kind of long cloth.

He tried wrapping it over his pyjama, but found it too clumsy, so he folded it and put it on his desk.

Later, another lawmaker needed a dhoti, so Wahab gave him the one he had.

On the last day of the session, two lawmakers who had argued a lot warmly shook hands.

That shows lawmakers can still be friendly even when they disagree.
