Bar Council of India Extends Law College Approval Renewal Deadline
In India, there is a group called the Bar Council of India that makes sure law schools are doing a good job.
Law schools are called Centres of Legal Education.
Every year, these schools must ask the Bar Council to keep their approval so they can keep teaching law students.
The deadline to send in the forms was July 31, 2026.
Many schools said they had problems with paperwork and computer systems, so they asked for more time.
The Bar Council listened and gave them one extra chance until August 31, 2026.
If schools send their forms late, they have to pay an extra late fee.
Some schools that have all their documents but cannot finish online can make a special promise in writing and get temporary approval.
But having approval to teach is not the same as being allowed to admit students, because schools still need final approval first.
The Bar Council of India (BCI) has granted a one-time extension to August 31, 2026, for existing Centres of Legal Education to submit continuation of affiliation approval applications for the 2026-27 academic session.
The extension follows requests from universities and law colleges citing delays in receiving affiliation orders, administrative difficulties, and technical problems with the application process.
Applications that were in draft status, incomplete, or involved partial fee payment after the previous deadline of July 31, 2026, will be treated as delayed applications requiring a late fee.
Institutions with all mandatory documents but unable to submit online can use an undertaking mechanism, with approvals subject to later document verification, scrutiny, and inspection.
The BCI clarified that completing any part of the application process does not amount to approval to conduct admissions or admit students.
