A speeding BMW allegedly crashed off a bridge near Mumbai’s Coastal Road early Sunday, killing three people and critically injuring another.
The car was reportedly travelling from Marine Drive toward Haji Ali when the driver lost control, hit a barrier and plunged into an under-construction parking area.
The 29.2-kilometre, eight-lane corridor is designed to cut travel between South Mumbai and the western suburbs to about 40–45 minutes.
Speed limits are 80 kmph on the main carriageway, 60 kmph in the twin undersea tunnels and 40 kmph on ramps, curves and interchanges.
Two-wheelers, bicycles, auto-rickshaws, heavy commercial vehicles and pedestrians are prohibited, while stopping, reversing, U-turns and photography are restricted.
