Indian Coast Guard Leads Nationwide International Coastal Cleanup Campaign
The Indian Coast Guard organized a large cleanup of India’s beaches and coastal areas.
The cleanup took place on 19 September 2026.
It happened in coastal States and Union Territories across the country.
More than 25,000 people joined the effort.
They collected plastic and other waste from the sea and shore areas.
Together, they removed 30,554 kilograms of marine debris.
Students, fishing communities, government groups, and organizations helped.
The campaign aimed to protect ocean life and keep coastlines clean.
The Indian Coast Guard conducted International Coastal Cleanup Day 2026 across all coastal States and Union Territories on 19 September 2026.
The event concluded the Ministry of Earth Sciences’ week-long “Swachh Sagar, Surakshit Sagar 5.0” campaign.
A total of 25,079 volunteers participated at more than 100 coastal locations.
Participants recovered and disposed of 30,554 kilograms of plastic waste and marine debris.
NCC cadets, NSS volunteers, educational institutions, fishing communities, government bodies, NGOs, and industry partners supported the drive.
