Volunteers Remove 2.4 Tonnes of Waste from Palavakkam Beach
More than 300 people cleaned Palavakkam Beach on Saturday.
They collected about 2.4 tonnes of rubbish.
Much of the rubbish was plastic and other debris.
The waste was sorted and disposed of properly.
The Greater Chennai Corporation and environmental groups organised the activity.
Students, government workers, volunteers and local residents took part.
The event taught people how to protect beaches and marine life.
Participants also promised to reduce plastic waste and keep coastal areas clean.
