Southern Railway Reaches Full Electrification After 95 Years
Southern Railway has now added electric power to all of its Broad Gauge railway routes.
The network covers 5,068 route kilometres.
The last section to be electrified was the 71-kilometre line between Pattukkottai and Karaikkudi.
Officials completed a required safety inspection on September 9.
Trains can now use electric traction throughout the railway zone.
They will not need to switch traction at certain points.
This can make train operations more streamlined.
It can also help railway officials use electric locomotives more effectively.
Southern Railway has fully electrified its 5,068-route-kilometre Broad Gauge network.
The milestone was completed with electrification of the 71-kilometre Pattukkottai-Karaikkudi section.
Statutory inspection of the newly electrified section was completed on September 9.
