Southern Railway completes electrification of entire Broad Gauge network

Southern Railway has finished putting electric equipment on all of its Broad Gauge railway routes.

The network covers 5,068 route kilometres.

The last part, a 71-kilometre line between Pattukkottai and Karaikkudi, was recently electrified.

A railway official inspected the new electric section on September 9.

Electric trains can now travel across the whole network without changing how they get power.

This may make train operations more flexible and efficient.

It can also reduce the railway’s reliance on fossil fuels.

Southern Railway says the change will help create a cleaner and more modern railway system.
