Dinesh Sharma is the new lieutenant governor of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

He officially began the job by taking an oath.

The ceremony took place at Lok Niwas in Sri Vijaya Puram, formerly called Port Blair.

Chief Justice Ravindra Vithalrao Ghuge administered the oath.

Chief Secretary Gyanesh Bharti read the appointment document.

Sharma previously served as Uttar Pradesh’s deputy chief minister and as mayor of Lucknow.

He was also a professor at the University of Lucknow and a Rajya Sabha member.

He replaces Admiral DK Joshi, who had held the post since 2017.
